The main idea of my story is how government of Kyrgyzstan affects to their mass media. From this story we can say that the role of the government played only president of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev. He controlled not only mass media of the country he also controlled over all people. From history we know that Kyrgyzstan was a part of the Soviet Union, Soviet Union was broke, but people in Kyrgyzstan are still living under the pressure of socialism. What does it mean under the pressure of socialism? It means that nobody can say their own opinion about government, president, presidents’ family and authority. They cannot elect president who’s their want. This situation is very hard especially to journalists whose work is give people only facts and true information. How journalists can work in such kind of regime. Kyrgyzstan clings to its reputation as an “island of democracy” in a sea of authoritarian Central Asian states. For a brief period following independence in 1991 the definition was relatively fitting, but it is no longer the case according to local and international human rights organizations – especially since President Askar Akayev introduced presidential rule in 1996. I think such kind of story about freedom of speech in CIS countries (Kyrgyzstan) will be very interesting to KIMEP students whose study not only in Journalism department but also for all students. So, it will be better to print such kind of story or articles in KIMEP Times newspaper. For me issues about mass media, freedom of speech are very interesting topics, so I always try reading news about countries media. We know that from early time people want to be free and independent, but it is not so easy to be. It is the main reason of many wars and battles in our Earth. For journalists to be independent and free is more important in order “independent and free” the root of their job. In my first professional development assignment #1 I wrote only the little example about how it is difficult to be free and independent especially for journalists, how government and authorities are have a power, and possibility to use them. In my second professional development assignment #2, I am going to write about Kyrgyzstan mass media and how their president Askar Akayev harassed journalists and Kyrgyz people. So, people could not suffer all his irresponsibility and went to movement against of their president Askar Akayev. This movement is called “Kyrgyzstan’s revolution”. “Kyrgyzstan’s revolution likely will have opened the doors to a more pragmatic government that nevertheless will still be leaning on Russia. As such, it will be the third of the ex-Soviet countries that has seen a grassroots revolution within the last 18 months that Russia has had to swallow. This information in brackets I have taken from internet sources. Internet is very useful to find some information and fact about your issue or feature article. But it is not mean that you should copy everything what you will find from Internet. I think first of all I should know about person who had to write an article. It will be better to know the name of correspondent.

I suggest writing about how it is dangerous to be an independent journalist. We know that the work of journalists to be free and independent but it is not so easy to stay in that rule (yes, I think it should be the rule to journalists). Every day we hear about many journalists, correspondents whose had been killed, harassed or punished. For example, reporters without borders said that editor whose name is father Nguyen Van Ly from magazine Tu do Ngôn luan was arrested and punished for eight years. He and people who helped him to write this propaganda arrested because of their article against of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Four other people who had helped him to write this article were arrested 18 month to six years in prison. From this article we can see that many countries do not have freedom of speech such as Vietnam. The organization “reporters without borders” said that they are going to ask US government to put down Vietnam in bottom of list of countries that do not have freedom of speech and if this organization will not add attention to this situation Vietnam mass media and journalists will be in danger. Also there were another bad event with journalists from Germany. ABC news announced that two journalists from Germany were killed in northern Afghanistan. The two a man and woman were worked as country’s national broadcaster. It happened in the morning when somebody killed them by gunfire from an AK-47 said provincial police chief Mohammad Azim Hashami. Two journalists were worked for the German news agency Deutsche Welle, according to Wakil Asas, a reporter for the company in Kabul. Such kind of event did not happened from 2001 when foreign journalists murdered in Afghanistan. From this bad news we can see that any journalists doesn’t protect from anyone. So, they should protect themselves in any situation.

Try to be independent?!

Hi everybody!!!!!Our group which consist from two girls have a theme like “be free”. Maybe you will say that this issue is boring and cliche, nevertheless it is important. Why? Because I think every future journalists know that it is very hard to find a country with independent mass media and free journalists. We should think about such kind of arguments. So we have choose this topic in order to discuss it again and try to find the reasons for why such kind of problem still exist in many countries with developed mass media.
